Inspiration

I was inspired to design a dish cloth that I could give to friends as new home gifts. I just love giving handmade gifts. I wanted something pretty but also functional. Not your typical corner to corner grandma’s dish cloth. A dish cloth that had a Whimsy North spin to it!

That’s where mosaic colorwork comes in. I’m all about adding colors and patterns to my designs all while making them easy to knit.

Knit Picks Dishie Yarn

I honestly created this design specifically for Knit Picks Dishie Yarn. My friend Kalley over at Kneedles and Life always uses it for her dish cloths and they turn out so pretty. When I finally caved and ordered some I was surprised at how robust it felt for a cotton yarn. It has the perfect structure and texture for scrubbing and comes in many beautiful colors!

You can use other worsted weight yarns, however, I would recommend a natural fiber like cotton that is also machine washable. Dishie fits all of these requirements and is so affordable too! You can purchase it directly from the Knit Picks website here.

How to knit this easy dish cloth

I call it an easy dish cloth because honestly it looks more difficult than it is. If you can knit, purl, and slip stitches you can knit this! With mosaic colorwork there is no carrying yarn across or catching floats you simply work one color at a time back and forth. Slipping, knitting, and purling as you go.

The colorwork instructions for this dish cloth are written below, however, if you are like me and prefer to read a chart you can purchase the low cost, ad-free PDF pattern that includes a full mosaic colorwork chart.

FINISHING

Weave in ends and block your dish cloth by soaking it in luke warm water, along with your favorite wool wash, for 15 minutes. Squeeze out excess water with a towel and lay flat to dry. Don’t block on towels as it can retain moisture and not allow your finished towel to dry.

Now you have a quick and super cute and functional dish cloth! Check out more of my FREE knitting patterns on the blog HERE.
