First Step – Organize your Linen Closet

Before you go buying anything, make sure to declutter and organize your linen closet. I put together this post with my step by step process to organizing my linen closet.

For all of my home organization needs I like to use The Container Store. This is due to their large variety of quality eye pleasing storage products. When I open my closets they look beautiful and organized and that gives me joy. Plus, having everything in it’s place and labeled helps my family of 7 to keep it organized!

The closest Container Store for me is a one hour drive so most of the time I order off of their website. This can be a little overwhelming due to ALL of the products they offer. That’s why I’ve put together my 7 best linen closet organizers from The Container Store so that you can save time shopping for what you need.

Before You Begin Shopping – Make Sure to Measure!

The number one thing to do before you shop for organizers is to get our your measuring tape and measure your space. There are so many different sized organizers that can fit almost any sized space. Don’t make my mistake – when I first measured the space I didn’t account for extra room between organizers and some things wouldn’t fit. Make sure to give clearance space around each item so you can fit other organizers, close closet doors, or shut drawers.

Decide on your Linen Closet Style

What style aesthetic are you going for in your linen closet? There are many different style choices to choose from like boho, minimalist, Scandinavian, colorful, neutral, or maximalist. I like to mix and match different organizers in order to give the space dimension and style. You may want to choose all one look in order to keep it cohesive. The sky is the limit!

What is your Budget for Organizing Your Linen Closet?

Another reason to mix and match organizer styles is budget. For my linen closet I chose to have some nice more expensive baskets at eye level mixed in with more affordable plastic bins at the top. This allowed me to keep my budget lower but still offer some beautiful stylish options.

1. The Home Edit – Clear Storage Drawers

Ok hear me out, I know these were originally made to organize your refrigerator but I use them as our medicine cabinet and first aid. These have been a game changer for keeping things organized and easy to find. I have one labeled for kids, one for adults, one first aid (think bandaids EVERYWHERE!). I keep thermometers in one along with other miscellaneous bandages.

As you can see from the photo above of my linen closet, I have 3 tall and 2 short. The middle top is open and that’s where I put my box of rubber gloves. If you have kids you know why I need these.

Why it’s great:

  • Visibility without having to open the bins. Everyone knows exactly where to find what they need.
  • Stackable design saves space. These fill the shelf and so can maximize what space you have.
  • Durable and easy to clean. Ever tried to clean up red cough syrup?

2. Water Hyacinth Bin Natural

If you’re ready to completely transform your linen closet, the Water Hyacinth Bins are a game-changer. These bins add style and function to any space. It’s why I have the most of these in my home. They come in 5 different sizes and even a cube style.

What we use them for: This is where I store our toilet paper and facial tissue boxes. You may be thinking “A beautiful basket for toilet paper?” Trust me, you will love getting out a new roll of toilet paper once you have these baskets.

Pro tip: Get bin clip labels like these to label yours. Again, this may sound silly to label a toilet paper basket but when another family member asks you where the toilet paper is you can easily send them to find it themselves!

Why it’s great:

  • Adds a touch of style and design to any space.
  • Comes in many different sizes and shapes to fit your specific needs.
  • High-quality and long-lasting materials.

3. Cambridge Large Box Linen

For a softer look, fabric bins and baskets are a stylish and functional choice. The Container Store has a wide range of colors, sizes, and styles that make it easy to match your closet’s aesthetic.

I used the Cambridge Large Box Linen for the bottom of my linen closet. If you read this post, you’ll see that I had a bunch of odds and ends at the bottom of my linen closet. Instead of finding specific small boxes for each item and making things feel more cluttered, I opted for 3 large fabric boxes that are easy to access and throw random items in.

One box I use for travel items. This is where I keep travel toiletry bags, ponchos for Disney World, cooling towels and fans for Disney, neck pillows for the airplane, etc. That way it’s all in one place so when I’m packing for a trip I just go straight to that box.

Why it’s great:

  • Adds a cozy, decorative touch.
  • Ideal for storing bulkier items like blankets or extra comforters.
  • Easy to pull out and access.

4. Montauk Rectangular Bin Light Grey

As I mentioned above, finding your personal style is one step to linen closet organization. If you are looking for more of a beach style the Montauk Rectangular Bin in Light Grey is the way to go. This bin comes in multiple sizes and even has a fabric insert that helps keep small items from falling through the cracks.

Why it’s great:

  • Multiple sizes to fit your space.
  • Minimalist design blends seamlessly with any decor.
  • Fabric insert to keep small items in place.

5. Nordic Basket

This may be my favorite organizer! Not only is it budget friendly but this plastic bin has style. It’s easy to clean, comes in multiple sizes, and even has an option to add a top so that you can stack them! You can see from my linen closet that I used these at the top in order to organize things that I don’t use as much.

I have one for light bulbs, nail supplies, cleaning supplies, back stock (items I stock up on while on sale). I put plastic tags on each of them so I know what’s in it. When I need to change a light bulb, I go straight to the bin. These are also a favorite for my laundry room.

Why it’s great:

  • Maximizes vertical space with different size options.
  • Minimalist design blends seamlessly with any decor.
  • Easy to clean.

6. iDESIGN Linus Medium Deep Drawer Bin Clear

Do you want to maximize the space in your linen closet and keep things from becoming unorganized? Then you need these deep drawer bins in your life. They come in multiple sizes and are perfect for containing wash cloths and hand towels.

If you look at the picture of my organized linen closet above, you will see that I use 3 of these across one shelf to organize my hand towels and wash cloths. This not only gives me additional space but it keeps them from turning into a disheveled mess. Trust me, you will love this.

Why it’s great:

  • Saves significant space.
  • Keeps small towels organized and in their place.
  • Ideal for small linen closets.

7. Labeling Systems

An organized closet isn’t complete without labels. The Container Store has a variety of labeling solutions, from chalkboard tags to clip-on labels, making it easy to keep track of where everything goes. As I said above, labeling is a step you don’t want to miss.

Why it’s great:

  • Prevents mix-ups and keeps the system organized.
  • Adds a polished, cohesive look.
  • Easy to update or change as needed.

The Container Store offers a wide range of linen closet organizers that can help you create a neat, functional, and visually pleasing space.
